Symbiosis // 2021 // A series of three handheld pieces // A variety of natural materials and found artificial objects

The pieces are made with the financial support of the Finnish Arts promotion center (Taike)

Symbiosis is a study of natural and artificial material found from the shores of the Baltic Sea. The Baltic sea surrounding the Finnish coast divides into three areas: The Bothnian Bay, the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Finland.

These three pieces of jewelry combine the characteristic natural elements of the areas with the three most common types of artificial garbage found in the Baltic Sea. The bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) of the Archipelago Sea meets with the fishing artifacts, The blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) of the Gulf of Finland with municipal waste and the stone from the Bothnian bay with waste from the building industry.

The jewelry remind us of the fragile sea environment and how our actions change the way we see and experience our sea.
